Architecture and Sketch Up
This week begins a unit on architecture. Students will study large movements in architecture beginning with Greeks and Roman ending with contemporary styles. After students can identify the different styles, students will begin designing a home, school, or public building using Sketch Up! Lessons in Adobe InDesign
Students are working on creating their own publication! After building skills in Photoshop and Illustrator, students are exploring another Adobe program called In Design. This program works perfectly for laying out text heavy, documents with multiple pages. Students will recreate and design a magazine newspaper or illustrated book.

Students will begin working on t-shirt designs for post prom. The theme is.... Let the Good Times Roll! Students will explore how to work with multiple artboards, use the brushes, and pencil tools to create dynamic designs for the shirts!

Let the Good Times Roll inspiration. There are many songs written with this theme that emphasize taking risks. Listen once carefully to the lyrics and another time noticing the tempo, rythym, and sound. Look over the images below for some inspiration. Remember, copying is not allowed. Create your own composition by combining, altering, or adapting images.

LOGO DESIGN
Not Another Logo! Yes it is another logo design but this one explores tools in Illustrator and is more advanced. You will learn a great deal of skills with this lesson to use in upcoming Illustrator projects.

Check out these unusual homes! Look more closely at one of the categories and identify as many construction methods and style characteristics from our reading as you can. Then, considering sketch ups capabilities, begin creating a sketch of your dream home in your sketchbook. Use at least 3 specific characteristics or construction methods in your sketch.
Visit this link about the Egyptian Building at Virginia Commonwealth University, designed by Thomas S. Stewart. Write down the symbolic characteristics of Egyptian Revival style. Why might it be used as the style for a medical building at a college?
Gothic Architecture like St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, NY and Notre Dame in Paris, France use flying buttresses to let more light into the church that Romanesque styles. Gothic architecture uses flying buttresses to spread the force more evenly to lessen the thickness of the archways walls.
The dome seen below in the Pantheon in Rome, Italy, is an iconic piece of Roman Architecture. Their invention of concrete allowed them to create a dome structure. Rounded arches and colonnades are other characteristics unique to Roman Architecture.

Movie Posters
Students chose a favorite movie and recreated the poster considering the films message, color, and typography. Students researched the films posters and created original compositions.
Family Heritage
Students are learning about layering imagery and the text feature in photoshop. Students gathered information about their heritage and family members. They chose imagery that represents interests of family members.
I created my example based off of my mother's heritage. She is the daughter of Richard and Dolores Little, distant English immigrants. I incorporated a map of england, pictures of family members, text embellishments, and symbols like the horseshoe. This side of my family are fans of riding and own a horse ranch.
