Cubist and DaDa Art
Cubist founders Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque felt the best way to depict an object in art was to represent it from several viewpoints simultaneously. Their work strongly used geometric shapes and angles as can be seen below. Cubist artists were the first to experiment with collage.
The DaDa movement utilized collage to effectively break any sense of tradition in art that existed at the time. The artists of this movement were motivated by political turmoil and social issues. Artist Marcel Duchamp created controversial work to inspire viewers to think and laugh. Hannah Hoch also wanted her viewers to think. She created complex collages that referenced political events, leaders and ideology. She used her art to campaign for women's rights as well.

Renaissance and Baroque Art Periods
The Renaissance period claims many incredible artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. This period left a great legacy. After developing techniques such as foreshortening, perspective, modelling, and aerial perspective, art was changed forever. Art now had more detail and realism to capture the viewer and suspend belief.
Baroque art used these techniques to add elegance and grandeur to paintings, sculpture, and architecture. Art of this period tends to evoke emotion and contain dramatic lighting.
